How are you moving?

When is the last time you've had a movement check-up?

We all know the benefit of getting our annual or semi-annual dental check-up. Getting a cavity when it's small sure beats getting a costly root canal.

But when is the last time you've had movement system checked?

Going through life, we can come to believe that our body movement systems are just fine.

Unfortunately, we're too close to our own movement that we don't even notice when things start going off the rails.

Until we have aches and pains that don't want to go away.

That's where my Movement Check-Up comes in.

"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

This old saying by Benjamin Franklin can apply to so many things in life.

And it’s no less relevant than in how we move.

Improving how you move in your body is more than just doing some stretching and strengthening.

The key is understanding how you move.

It’s how you squat that matters.

It’s how you move your shoulders.

It’s how you turn your head.

Why? Because movement is cumulative. Meaning we do a lot of it!

And what we do a lot of adds up over time which can have negative effects on tissue health and function.

The Movement Check-Up

In my Movement Check-Up, I take a 360 degree view of your body. I do a full body movement evaluation looking over how you move from head to toes.

To augment my physical evaluation, I have built an unique web based tool called Clinical Insights 360. It's a series of easy-to-complete quizzes that will help me understand how well you move throughout your body.

Once completed, you get an easy-to-review visual report of your strengths and weaknesses. Together, we will review your scores and use this to augment my in-person movement systems evaluation.

Healthy movement is built on these four pillars:

In addition to evaluating your movement and strength, these four pillars have significant impacts on healthy aging, injury prevention and physical function.

Beliefs about Pain

Your beliefs about pain, healing and activity impact your behaviour. And research is uncovering the powerful role that our thoughts have on our nervous system functioning.

By uncovering inaccurate beliefs about pain, we can help you move with more confidence and less pain.

Sleep Experience

Sleep is important for general health and wellbeing. It has even more importance when it comes to overcoming persistent pain conditions.

The quality and quantity of your sleep can be the missing driver to overcoming pain and injury.

Activity Tolerance & Loading

Our lack of muscle strength and mobility is often labelled as the culprits for injury and ongoing pain. But even more important is how you load your tissues. If we load our tissues too much or too soon, we'll find ourselves struggling to get back to what we love.

Understanding your activity and loading behaviours will help me understand if this is driving your ongoing pain.

Personal Resiliency & Supports

The social and mental supports we have in place can make a big difference in our ability to overcome adversity and pain.

By looking at various factors relating to personal resiliency, I can better understand if this is holding back your recovery.

What You Can Expect

The Movement Check-Up will help you age well.

This whole body systems evaluation is tailored regardless of your age or level of physical activity.

It is designed to help you pinpoint your top priorities to optimize your movement for the activities and demands of your life.

The flow of my Movement Check-Up is as follows:

Pre-Session Intake:

The first part of my Whole Body Evaluation is completed in the comfort of your home. It consists of a series of mini-quizzes related to the domains I highlighted earlier.

In-Person Evaluation:

This is then followed up with an in-person evaluation looking at your whole body movement.

At the end of the session, I will review my findings along with my recommendations regarding your top movement check-up priorities.

Post Session Follow-Up:

Following the session, I will send you a personal video message summarizing my assessment findings along with a recap of my recommendations.

Are you ready to get started?

I'd love the opportunity to help you on your journey to better health.
